What 𘒑 means
Food for an army. Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary glosses it as “food for army,” meaning provisions supplied to soldiers.
Why was Tangut script created?
To write the Tangut language. Around 1036, Western Xia’s first emperor had the script devised. Western Xia was a kingdom in what is now northwestern China; surviving texts include Buddhist writings, legal records, and literature.
The script drew on Chinese and Khitan writing, but it was a separate system for Tangut. It continued after Western Xia fell to the Mongols, through the Yuan and Ming eras, and was obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
