What 𘒟 means
Its entry and reading identify it, not its meaning in English. Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary lists it as entry 1186. Scholarly Tangut notation gives the reading as zhon'₂; the subscript marks a tone category, a distinction in voice pitch, rather than an English definition or a Mandarin pronunciation.
Tangut script was created in 1036 under Emperor Li Yuanhao for state-building and a written identity distinct from Song China. It carried Buddhist scripture translations and secular works translated from Chinese. A manuscript from Khara-Khoto, a site where Tangut manuscripts were found, is probably from the 12th or early 13th century; that dates the surviving text, not 𘒟 itself.
Why does 𘒟 resemble Chinese writing?
It follows Chinese character-writing principles, but it records Tangut. Neighboring Khitan states had also developed distinct scripts, and Tangut texts translated Chinese works. These connections place Tangut writing in a shared history without making 𘒟 a Chinese character.

Questions people ask
2How is 𘒟 pronounced?
Scholarly Tangut notation writes the reading as zhon'₂; the subscript marks a tone category, a distinction in voice pitch. It is not a Mandarin reading, and the Latin letters should not be sounded out with English letter names.
Why does 𘒟 show as a box?
The app or font may lack Tangut support. A missing-glyph box means the software cannot draw the character; it does not change the character itself.
