tangut ideograph-184b1

Tangut character 184B1

5298/6136

Li Fanwen’s 2008 Tangut–Chinese dictionary glosses 𘒱 as “consciousness.” Around 1036, Western Xia’s Tangut ruler commissioned the script to write the Tangut language and mark the kingdom as distinct. It appears in Buddhist, official, and secular works, and remained in use under Yuan and Ming rule after Western Xia fell. Its forms drew on Chinese writing, but Tangut is a separate script: 𘒱 is not a Chinese character.

Why does 𘒱 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
