Tangut Character 184B4

5301/6136

𘒴 is a Tangut word for “digging”; Tangut was the language of the Western Xia state. In 1036, that state established an official Tangut script to mark its separate identity. Its character forms drew on Chinese writing, and Buddhist books still used it after Western Xia fell in 1227. A box means the app’s font lacks Tangut coverage.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘒴 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
