What 𘓖 means
It means “to beat or strike.” Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary index lists it under entry L2008-3738 and pairs it with the traditional Chinese character 毆, a gloss with the same meaning.
Is 𘓖 a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to the Tangut script. Around 1036, the Western Xia court established Tangut writing to record the Tangut language. Court accounts credit the first emperor with commissioning the script and Yeli Renrong with developing it. It served government and education, then carried translated Buddhist and Chinese works.
After the Western Xia fell, Tangut remained in Yuan- and Ming-era texts before the script became obsolete. Tangut belongs to a broader East Asian tradition of square, character-based writing, alongside the Khitan and Jurchen scripts of neighboring states; these are separate writing systems.
Historical and specialist; it belongs in discussion of Tangut writing or the Western Xia period.
