Text symbol

What 𘕚 means

It means “bait”; no is its reconstructed Tangut pronunciation.

A modern Tangut–Chinese dictionary gives 餌, Chinese for “bait,” as the gloss and reconstructs its Tangut pronunciation as no.

Created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor, Tangut script was designed to write the Tangut language. It appeared in official, private, and Buddhist texts and continued after the state fell through the Yuan and Ming dynasties, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Its square forms reflect Chinese influence, but Tangut is a separate script.

Why does 𘕚 show as a box?

Your font may not include Tangut glyphs.

Tangut characters need a font with glyph coverage. If you see a blank square, try a Tangut-capable font.

Why does 𘕚 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
