What 𘕝 means
It functions as a Tangut case marker.
One Tangut grammar classification labels it directional. A case marker shows how a noun relates to the rest of a sentence; the best English wording depends on that relationship.
When did Tangut writing begin?
The script entered use in 1036.
It recorded the Tangut language in state documents and translations of Buddhist scriptures and Chinese classics, while giving the state a distinct written identity. Its design drew visual cues from Chinese writing; Tangut rulers also followed neighboring Khitan examples of script-making, but Tangut remained a separate system.
The earliest surviving sample is an official dispatch from 1072. After Western Xia fell in 1227, later Tangut writing appears mainly in Buddhist texts.
