What 𘗁 means
It is glossed “wisdom” in Tangut.
Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary lists 𘗁 as entry L2008-5047, or Tangut 5047, gives its scholarly transcription as nwə, and places the entry under “wisdom” in the English index. That is a dictionary gloss for a Tangut word, not a general-purpose wisdom sign.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It was created for the Western Xia state language.
Tangut writing was created under the first emperor of Western Xia, a Tangut-ruled state, about 1036 CE. By the 12th century, the state used the script officially and ordered Buddhist and Chinese texts translated.
Surviving Tangut texts include religious, official, private, and literary works. The script continued in texts under Yuan and Ming rule after Western Xia fell, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. It resembles Chinese writing visually, but it is a separate system: the two are not mutually readable.
Historical and specialist: the “wisdom” gloss belongs to a Tangut dictionary entry, not a standalone emblem.
Without Tangut context, “wisdom” overstates what the gloss tells you.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘗁 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
