What 𘗂 means
𘗂 is a Tangut word meaning “to bite.”
Tangut writing was created in 1036 under Emperor Li Yuanhao for the Western Xia state. It supported state-building, a Buddhist canon, and an identity distinct from Song China. Separate from Chinese, its character design drew on Chinese and Khitan state-script models. Tangut texts included Buddhist, Confucian, military, encyclopedic, and literary translations. A surviving manuscript fragment probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. As of 2026, no later symbolic meaning is established for this character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘗂 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
