What 𘚅 means
𘚅 is a Tangut character used to write the Tangut language.
Created about 1036 for the Western Xia state, the Tangut script was used for Buddhist books, dictionaries, inscriptions, and government records. After Western Xia fell to the Mongols, Tangut writing continued through the Yuan and Ming dynasties before becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming.
What does jij mean here?
It is a scholarly reading, not an English translation.
A 2023 study of a Tangut reference text arranged like a dictionary transcribes 𘚅 as jij and marks it as less common with a small circle. That mark describes the character's status in the text; it does not give its meaning.
The reading alone does not give an English translation; a translator needs the surrounding Tangut text.
What should I do if someone sends 𘚅?
Ask what Tangut text or source they mean.
By itself, the character does not reveal its source or lexical meaning. Ask for the surrounding Tangut text or the passage it comes from before interpreting it as a message.
Its natural setting is historical, scholarly, or typographic discussion.
Do not treat jij as an English translation.
