tangut ideograph-187ec

Tangut character 187EC

6125/6136

𘟬 is a Tangut character; its Unicode label identifies it, not its meaning, which depends on Tangut context. Tangut writing was introduced in 1036 to build the Western Xia state, support its cultural identity, and translate Buddhist scriptures. It followed Chinese character principles but formed a distinct script; manuscripts and Buddhist inscriptions survive to 1502. Display requires a font that supports Tangut: this is text, not emoji artwork.

Why does 𘟬 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
