What 𘛸 means
Its reconstructed reading is *jwu₃, not an English definition. Tangut dictionary indexes link it to Li Fanwen's entry L5320 and a corresponding entry in Clauson's lexicon. A reconstruction is an informed estimate of a historical pronunciation; the notation does not translate the word.
Is 𘛸 Chinese?
Tangut is a separate script influenced by Chinese writing. Li Yuanhao commissioned Tangut writing in 1036 for the Western Xia state, Buddhist translation, and a distinct written identity alongside Song China. Chinese visual and structural ideas shaped its design; earlier Khitan script-making provides a precedent. This describes influence between writing systems, not descent of this exact character from a Chinese or Khitan sign.
Twelfth- and thirteenth-century manuscripts preserve Buddhist works and secular translations; Tangut materials also survive from the Yuan dynasty. These settings place this character in historical writing and scholarly study.
Best suited to discussion of Tangut texts or historical research; it is not a casual conversation mark.
