tangut ideograph-1875c

Tangut character 𘝜

5981/6136

𘝜 is a Tangut character glossed “to steal”; its reconstructed reading is written “kjur.” Tangut was the language of the Western Xia state, whose script was created in the eleventh century for writing Tangut and Buddhist texts. It also recorded Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist works, Confucian texts, military writing, and literature; its forms drew on Chinese character-building, after neighboring Khitan peoples had developed scripts of their own.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘝜 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
