tangut ideograph-1877f

Tangut character 1877F

6016/6136

𘝿 is a Tangut character; its shape is not a picture that reveals its word. Tangut writing, modeled on Chinese writing, served official, Buddhist, and Chinese texts from 1036 under the Western Xia state. The character appears in the title of a Tangut proverb book printed in 1187. The script continued in manuscripts and woodblocks after the state fell. Display needs a Tangut-capable font.

Why does 𘝿 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
