Text symbol

What 𘝽 means

The dictionary gloss is “a kind of bee.”

Tangut script was created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor for the Tangut language in what is now northwestern China. Its characters combine components like Chinese writing, but form a separate script. Official, private, and religious texts survive; use continued under Yuan and Ming rule after Western Xia fell, ending by Ming’s close.

Why does 𘝽 appear as a box?

A Tangut-capable font is required. Otherwise it may appear as a box or replacement mark; fonts can draw it differently.

1

Why does 𘝽 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
