What 𘞟 means
It means “one”; its reconstructed Tangut reading is written gji.
The origin of the Tangut script lies in a state project around 1036. The first Western Xia emperor, Li Yuanhao, ordered the official Yeli Renrong to develop and promulgate it. The earliest surviving example is an official document sent to a military official in Guazhou in 1072.
The script drew on Chinese writing and served state records and education, as well as Buddhist scriptures, translated works, military texts, and literature. It helped express Tangut political and cultural independence alongside Chinese writing. The Tangut–Khitan connection remains debated. Tangut texts continued under later dynasties after Western Xia fell, before the script became obsolete.
What does 𘞟 mean when someone sends it?
Read it as “one”; the message supplies the sender’s purpose.
Alone, it may be a Tangut text sample. In a transcription, it carries its historical Tangut value; the character by itself does not explain why it was sent.
An empty box can be a display problem: the text may still be 𘞟, but the selected font may lack this Tangut glyph. A Tangut-capable font can show it.
Historical and technical; without context, it reads like a script sample rather than a clear reaction.
A blank box can mean the font lacks this Tangut glyph; the text may still be 𘞟.
