What 𘞤 means

Its Unicode name is a code label, not a translation.

Tangut names are built from code points. Use a Xixia lexicon or surrounding text to identify the word and reading.

Why was Tangut writing created?

It gave Western Xia a written voice.

Commissioned around 1036 for state writing and Buddhist texts, it drew on Chinese models but did not descend from Chinese writing. Nearby Khitan rulers also created scripts. Tangut writing continued after the Mongol conquest into the Yuan and Ming periods; texts, inscriptions, and some coins preserve that longer use.
