What 𘞣 means
Use a Tangut input method with code lookup and candidate selection.
Specialized layouts offer stroke-code or reconstructed-reading lookup; a standard keyboard layout does not assign every Tangut character its own key.
What does 𘞣 mean?
A Tangut dictionary pairs it with the gloss “to wet or moisten.”
The 12th-century Sea of Writing (Wenhai), a Tangut reference book that groups characters by rhyme, records 𘞣. Li Fanwen’s index gives a reconstructed reading written nej and pairs it with Chinese 濡, whose core sense is wetting or moistening.
Which script does 𘞣 belong to?
It belongs to the Tangut script, used to write the Tangut language.
Tangut writing was disseminated in 1036 as the Western Xia state pursued state-building through Buddhist texts and a distinct political identity. Western Xia was the Tangut state; its character design drew on Chinese writing principles and developed alongside the earlier Khitan script.
After the Western Xia state fell in 1227, Tangut writing remained in later texts but ceased to be an everyday writing system.
