What 𘞵 means

The dictionary gloss is “to grow.” The character writes a Tangut word in a script used by the Tangut people and the Western Xia state.

Tangut script was established in 1036 for state-building and Buddhist translation. It was also used for official writing, religious texts, and works translated from Chinese. Its design drew on Chinese writing principles and earlier Khitan state scripts—scripts made for another regional government—but Tangut remained separate. An 1184 contract records 𘞵 as the first character in a woman’s name, 𘞵𗘂, translated “Growing Dog.”
