What 𗘂 means
It means “dog” in Tangut.
Around 1036, Tangut writing was created under the first Western Xia emperor to write the Tangut language and support the state’s distinct identity. Western Xia was a Tangut-ruled state; an early major project was translating the Buddhist canon. Tangut texts later included government records, Chinese works translated into Tangut, Buddhist scripture, and nonreligious books.
A manuscript fragment from Khara-Khoto, a former Tangut city, probably dates from the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut writing remained in use under the Yuan and Ming dynasties after Western Xia fell, before it became obsolete.
Is 𗘂 Chinese?
No. It is a Tangut character, not a Chinese one.
Tangut borrowed some principles for building characters from Chinese writing, but it writes a different language. Tangut was historically written in vertical columns; modern scholarship prints it horizontally from left to right.
Historical and specialist; it belongs in discussion of Tangut language, writing, or texts.
Without Tangut font support, the character may appear as a box.
