What 𞊭 means
As of 2026, Keyman offers a Toto-script keyboard.
Its Toto layout runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iPhone/iPad. It types Toto-script characters, including 𞊭.
In the Toto alphabet, 𞊭 writes /ɑ/, an open “ah” vowel. Latin-script Toto writes that sound as a, but Latin a and 𞊭 are different characters.
Toto chose its own alphabet to capture its sounds
Before this script, people wrote Toto with Bengali or Latin spellings that could leave some sound contrasts unclear. The community wanted an alphabet for mother-tongue education and cultural continuity. Dhaniram Toto designed the letters; in a 2023 interview, he said a song about alphabets connecting people inspired him to make a lasting script. The letters draw on familiar objects associated with their sounds, and the alphabet launched in the community in May 2015.
