𞊟 is the Toto alphabet’s letter for an r-like consonant, written r in Latin transcription. Earlier Toto writing also used Bengali and Latin scripts; this letter belongs to a community-chosen alphabet.

Text symbol

What 𞊟 means

It writes Toto’s r-like consonant, transcribed as r in Latin letters.

Phoneticians write it as /ɹ/, an approximant made without a full tap or trill. Though named Ra, the letter marks only the consonant; no “a” vowel follows automatically.

Before this alphabet, Toto was written in Bengali and Latin scripts. Speakers preferred new letters to adapting those systems for shared spelling; community member Dhaniram Toto designed them. The alphabet launched on 22 May 2015 to support writing in Toto and mother-tongue education.

Why does 𞊟 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
