What 🌷 means
Usually kindness, not a come-on. From a friend or your mom, a tulip is light affection with no grand gesture: think get-well cards and April windowsills. From a crush, read the message around it. Next to “miss you” or a red heart it can carry romance, since red tulips have long stood for love in flower lore.
Rare tulip bulbs once sold for extraordinary prices
Tulips were admired long before emoji. Sasanian Persian material from the 4th–7th centuries shows them, and a botanical text from Muslim-ruled Spain, dated to the late 11th or early 12th century, lists them as ornamental plants. In 16th-century Ottoman (Turkish imperial) culture they were planted widely in palace gardens and served as devotional emblems.
Ottoman enthusiasm later earned the years 1718–1730 the nickname Tulip Era. In the Dutch Republic, the most prized tulips had flame-like streaks caused by a virus, and growers propagated them from bulb offsets. Bulbs and contracts for future bulbs changed hands at extraordinary prices until the market broke in early 1637. Historians debate how much harm the crash did, but tulip mania remains the classic cautionary tale about speculation.
Friendly by default — easy to send to family and friends; with a crush, the words around it decide.

Questions people ask
1Is the tulip emoji flirty?
Not by itself. It turns flirty only when the message around it does. In explicit chats it has occasionally stood in for female genitals, a use noted in 2018.
