What ꔒ means
It marks one spoken syllable inside a word. The history of the Vai script begins around 1832–33, when Vai speakers developed it to write their language; Momolu Duwalu Bukele is traditionally credited among several contributors. The earliest outside reports date to 1834. It served correspondence, record-keeping, and trade.
Manuscripts show its forms changing over time. Whether its design drew on Latin, Arabic, Cherokee, or an earlier pictographic tradition remains debated. Later, Mende, Loma, and Kpelle scripts adopted aspects of its syllabic model.
Tone: neutral and textual; it belongs inside Vai words.
A blank box instead of ꔒ usually means the font lacks Vai coverage.
