What ꖩ means
It represents one syllable in the Vai script.
Vai is a syllabary: its signs represent syllables. ꖩ contributes ru to a word; that word carries the meaning.
Vai speakers developed the script in Liberia in 1832–33; Mɔmɔlu Duwalu Bukɛlɛ was an early promoter. Its oldest surviving sample dates to 1834; the Book of Ndole manuscript to ca. 1845. It served records, letters, trade and religious translation amid colonial change. Early forms varied; the script was standardized in 1962 and later influenced Mende, Loma and Kpelle writing. A proposed Cherokee link remains unproven as of 2026; resemblance alone cannot establish borrowing.
