What 𑣱 means
Use a character picker or a Warang Citi keyboard. A character can exist in Unicode even when your device has no keyboard layout for entering it.
A community keyboard rollout reached Android 11 in September 2021.
Does 𑣱 mean 80 or 8?
It means eighty; 𑣨 is the separate digit for eight.
The recognizable modern form is tied to Lako Bodra's work in the 1950s. It gave Ho writers a community-controlled alternative to scripts used by Christian missionary linguists, along with a basis for teaching and publications. Community tradition traces an older ancestor to Deowan Turi in the 13th century.
Warang Citi is one of several scripts created for languages in the Munda family in the 20th century. Ol Chiki serves Santali and Sorang Sompeng serves Sora; Bani Hisir, a script for Mundari, was partly influenced by Warang Citi. Claims of borrowing from Latin or Brahmi are disputed; visual resemblance alone does not establish descent. In Warang Citi number writing, 23 appears either as a dedicated sign for 20 followed by 3 or as the digits 2 and 3; higher-number signs are not always used.
In Ho text it is a working numeral; outside Ho writing, it can signal interest in Ho literacy and Adivasi identity, the identity of Indigenous peoples in South Asia.
