What ▿ means
It is a small, hollow triangle pointing down.
On its own, ▿ tells you its shape and direction. A list, diagram, or custom notation can assign it a local role, so use nearby labels and patterns to work out any extra meaning.
How does ▿ differ from ▽?
▿ is the smaller outline form; ▽ is the regular-size form.
Unicode’s guide to mathematical shapes puts ▿ in the small size intended for bullets and ▽ in the regular-size group. The exact proportions can vary by font. ▾ has the same small down-pointing shape as ▿, but it is filled.
