What 𐺐 means
It is the voiced “zh” sound, like the middle of “measure.”
The Yezidi script’s origin is disputed: some accounts place it in the 13th–14th centuries, others in the 17th–18th. Its manuscript trail entered modern scholarship in 1911, when two Yezidi religious manuscripts, Maṣḥaf Raš and Ktébī J̌alwe̱h, were published.
A 2013 account describes Yezidi representatives in Georgia modernizing the script for contemporary Kurmanji and adding vowel letters. It records the script in temple inscriptions, prayers, and council documents; Yezidi clergy recognize the writing system but reject the disputed manuscripts as scripture.
How is Yezidi Ja related to other scripts?
Its counterparts are Latin j, Arabic ژ, and Cyrillic ж.
These forms represent the same sound in different writing traditions; they are not the same character. Kurmanji can also be written in Latin, Cyrillic, or Arabic-based scripts, so 𐺐 identifies the Yezidi-script spelling.
