What 𐺝 means
It matches the k in English “skin.”
The Yezidi alphabet runs from right to left; Kaf is read inside the word it helps spell.
When did the Yezidi script begin?
The manuscript dates do not settle the script’s beginning.
Maṣḥafā Reš and Ktébī Jalwe, two books written in Yezidi script, may date to the 12th–13th centuries. Estimates for the script’s creation range from the 13th–14th to the 17th–18th centuries. The books were first published in 1911: one includes a speech by Tawûsê Melek, the principal angel in Yezidi religion; the other tells a creation story.
In 2013, the Spiritual Council of Yezidis in Georgia revived the alphabet; Kêrîm Amoêv and Dimitri Pirbari modernized it for Êzdîkî, the Yezidi language also known as Kurmanji Kurdish. As of 2026, clergy at the Yezidi temple in Tbilisi use it for prayers, sacred books, and other writing. The scholars behind the revival also saw the alphabet as one way to express Yezidi identity. Historical manuscripts sometimes use ligatures—joined forms of two letters—while modern letters are separate.
The revived alphabet marks Yezidi-script writing and can also express Yezidi identity.
Do not substitute Arabic ك in Yezidi text; the same sound does not make it the same written character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐺝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
