What 𐺍 means

It is the Yezidi letter for the r sound. In Êzdîkî, a name used for the Yezidi community’s Kurmanji variety, it supplies that consonant sound inside a word.

Yezidi is written right to left. Modern letters stay separate; the joined letter forms found in historical manuscripts are not used in modern writing.

How old is the Yezidi script?

The manuscripts and creation accounts point to different dates. The Maṣḥafā Reš and Ketēbā Jelwa, two religious works with early manuscript witnesses, may date to the 12th or 13th centuries; other accounts place the script’s creation in the 17th or 18th centuries. Their publication in 1911 brought the script wider attention. Yezidi clergy do not all accept the works as authentic sources of faith.

In 2013, Yezidi representatives in Georgia revived and modernized the script for Êzdîkî. The modern form adapts the classical Yezidi repertoire and appears in prayers, sacred books, heraldry, letterheads, and other writing. Kurmanji is also written in Latin, Cyrillic, and Arabic scripts; choosing Yezidi script marks an orthographic choice. Unicode’s 2020 standardization records digital encoding, not the letter’s age.

How do I type 𐺍?

Use a dedicated Yezidi keyboard layout. A standard Latin keyboard’s R key does not enter 𐺍 directly; a Yezidi layout can handle longer text.

If the character appears as a square or blank, the font or text system lacks Yezidi coverage. A font with Yezidi coverage can display it; the missing glyph does not change the character.

Using 𐺍 signals Yezidi-script writing; Kurmanji can also appear in Latin, Cyrillic, or Arabic scripts.

Readers unfamiliar with Yezidi script may need a familiar-script spelling too.

Why does 𐺍 show as a box?

It usually means the font or text system lacks Yezidi coverage. A font that supports Yezidi characters can display it; the box does not mean you have a different letter.

What does the dot under historical Ra mean?

The Unicode description calls the dot’s purpose unknown. It appears below Ra in a classical manuscript and is not a modern letter variant.
