Yi Radical Ggop

7/55

꒖ is a dictionary index mark in the standardized Liangshan Yi script. Yi writing has regional forms; its precise origin remains debated. Claimed bronze and stone inscriptions date to Western Han (206 BC to AD 9), while surviving parchment and paper texts reach around 1500. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980.

What ꒖ means

It indexes a group of Yi syllable signs by one recurring stroke.

Each sign in the Yi syllabary represents one spoken syllable. “Ggop” names the sign closest to ꒖ in shape, not its meaning.

Earlier Yi ideographs—signs for words or ideas—were modeled on Chinese writing; the Liangshan syllabary developed from them. Its dictionary radicals follow the Han lookup system. Alone in chat, ꒖ is specialist notation without an established everyday message meaning.
