What ꒶ means
It sorts Yi syllable characters by their shared strokes.
Yi radicals group Liangshan characters that represent syllables for dictionary lookup. Chinese character radicals do similar indexing, but this is a functional parallel, not shared ancestry. The romanized label “got” names the Yi syllable whose shape this sign resembles.
Yi tradition credits Aki with creating the script during China's Tang dynasty. The earliest securely dated surviving example is an inscription in Yi and Chinese on a bronze bell from 1485. Before standardization, bimo (Yi ritual specialists) used regional scripts for ritual, medical, magical, genealogical, and literary texts. The Liangshan standard for one dialect was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980.
It marks specialized Yi-script reference material.
Its outline comes from the text font, so stroke details can differ.
