What ꐙ means
It represents a spoken syllable, not a standalone idea. The jjix character belongs inside a Liangshan Yi word or passage. In the Latin-based spelling for Liangshan Yi, jjix ends with x, which marks the secondary-high tone—the syllable’s pitch pattern.
Traditional Yi writing developed through local traditions over time. Older forms included signs that represented ideas; Yi priests used them for religious and magical texts, medicine, and records of family lines. The earliest securely dated example generally cited is a bronze bell from 1485; claims of older examples remain disputed. A literacy standard for one Liangshan Yi dialect selected traditional forms to improve literacy; it was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980. It does not cover every Yi language.
