What ꅚ means
It writes a spoken syllable in Yi text. Nuosu is a Yi language associated with the Liangshan region. In its standardized writing, ꅚ has the Latin-letter spelling ndap; the final p marks a low-falling tone, meaning the voice drops in pitch. That spelling gives the reading, not an English translation.
Yi writing has varied regional traditions. One origin tradition credits Aki in the Tang dynasty. The earliest paper and sheepskin Yi texts date to around 1500. Older writing served religious, magical, medical, and family-history purposes and was used by village ritual specialists.
The standardized Liangshan form was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980 to support literacy in the local dialect. It appears in school materials, official documents, newspapers, literature, and published ritual and epic texts. The modern form connects with traditions called Cuan wen, Wei shu, and bimo wen; bimo were village ritual specialists. Its layout follows Han Chinese writing direction and punctuation, while the Yi syllable system keeps its own character inventory.
Inside Yi writing, ꅚ is neutral syllable text; sent alone to someone who cannot read Yi, it is opaque.
If they cannot read Yi, add a translation or the surrounding sentence.
