What ꌶ means
It is one written syllable in Liangshan Yi.
Yi writing developed through local traditions. Yi ritual specialists called bimo transmitted religious, magical, healing and genealogical texts. The earliest surviving clearly dated example identified for Yi writing is a bronze bell from 1485; older claimed inscriptions remain disputed in date and identification.
The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to support literacy. It regularized an existing regional tradition for the Liangshan variety of Nuosu, a Yi language. Historical sources use Cuan and Wei as names for Yi writing traditions. Yi glyphs are treated as independent from Han (Chinese) characters; Tangut, Khitan and Jurchen scripts show Han influence.
How do I type ꌶ?
Use a Yi input method, then choose its candidate.
A Yi input method editor (IME) takes phonetic input and offers Yi characters as candidates; select ꌶ from the list. The exact keys depend on the installed IME.
If a font lacks Yi-script coverage, the character may appear as a box even though the input method accepted it.
What does ꌶ mean in a message?
It contributes one syllable to Yi text; context gives the message.
A lone send gives you no surrounding Yi word or sentence. Ask for that context before deciding what the sender meant.
As of 2026, a published Nuosu New Testament shows ꌶ inside continuous scripture.
Ordinary inside Yi writing; a detached syllable gives little to interpret.
A lone ꌶ is too little context to read as a full message.
