What ꊃ means

Its place in Yi text determines the word meaning.

In Liangshan's Latin spelling wap, final p marks tone, not a consonant.

Yi syllables run together without spaces. If ꊃ arrives alone, ask for surrounding text before translating.

The standard has older roots

The oldest dated Yi inscription is on a bronze bell from 1485; many manuscripts are undated. Bimo, Yi village ritual specialists, used regional writing for rites, medicine and family histories, not broad communication. Devised in 1974 and issued in 1980, the Liangshan standard gave older forms fixed readings for a Yi variety in Sichuan.

Why does ꊃ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
