What ꊉ means
The gloss belongs to a word, not the sign alone. A 2022 Nuosu Yi lexicon records a word with ꊉ as “swell; increase in size.”
Yi writing’s oldest surviving evidence is a 1485 bronze-bell inscription, not this glyph. Village priests used traditional forms for religious, magical, medical, and genealogical texts. The Liangshan syllabary took shape in 1974 and was promulgated in 1980 for literacy; it grew from Yi, not Han, Tibetan, or Burmese, traditions and serves Liangshan Nuosu, not every Yi variety.
The glyph is a plain Yi syllable sign.
As of 2026, “wop” is an offensive ethnic slur in English; here it is only a romanized label for a Yi syllable.
