What ꑻ means

It is a Liangshan Yi syllable, not a standalone word.

In the standardized Liangshan Yi romanization, a spelling system written with Latin letters, yuo names this syllable. With no final t, x, or p, it carries the mid-level tone: a fairly even pitch rather than a rise or fall.

In Nuosu Yi, yuo can serve as a human classifier. A classifier is a grammatical marker used with a number to show what kind of thing is being counted; the surrounding phrase gives ꑻ its full reading.

Where does Liangshan Yi writing come from?

ꑻ belongs to the standardized Liangshan Yi syllabary.

Traditional Yi writing varied by region and was mainly preserved in religious, magical, medical, genealogical, and literary texts by bimo, community ritual specialists. Older names for that tradition include Cuan and Wei; it was not one uniform set of signs.

One origin tradition credits Aki with devising the script during China's Tang dynasty (618–907); this is a tradition, not a documented biography. The earliest dated surviving example commonly cited is a bronze-bell inscription from 1485. Claims of much older stone, pottery, or bone inscriptions remain disputed.

The standardized Liangshan form was devised in 1974, used experimentally from 1975, and officially promulgated in 1980 to support literacy in that dialect. Its signs represent syllables; the standardized set does not cover all regional or historical Yi writing.

How do I type ꑻ?

Use a Liangshan Yi keyboard or Unicode hexadecimal input.

On a keyboard set for Liangshan Yi, choose the yuo entry; the Latin-letter spelling identifies the syllable, and candidate selection depends on the app. With a Unicode hexadecimal input tool, enter UA47B. Font support controls how the text glyph appears, and different supported fonts may draw it differently.

A written Liangshan Yi syllable; use it in Nuosu text when the reader can read that script.

Why does ꑻ show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Yi Syllables block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
