What ꑼ means
It represents the syllable yuop; Nuosu words give it meaning in context.
In the standard Nuosu romanization, final p marks a low falling tone: the voice drops to a low pitch.
If it arrives alone, ask for the surrounding sentence; one syllable may not identify the intended word.
How did Yi writing develop?
Yi writing grew through local forms before Liangshan Nuosu was standardized.
Before standardization, local Yi forms served religious, magical, medical and family-history writing, often copied by bimo, Yi ritual specialists.
Unicode's account identifies a bronze bell dated 1485 as the earliest surviving example; the script's origins and earliest attestations remain debated. Cuan and Wei name related traditional Yi writing forms. The modern Liangshan standard selected older forms for literacy, but does not represent every Yi variety.
