What ꑽ means
It writes one Liangshan Yi syllable, romanized “yot.”
“Yot” is the standard Liangshan Yi Pinyin spelling, not an English word. Its final “t” marks high-level tone; ꑿ writes “yo” at midlevel tone.
How did Yi writing develop?
This syllabary is the Liangshan standard within a regional Yi writing tradition.
Traditional Yi writing took regional forms of an ideographic script, whose signs could stand for words or ideas, historically called Cuan or Wei; it does not appear to derive from Chinese Han characters. Objects from the Western Han period are sometimes cited as early examples, but the oldest securely dated surviving examples are inscriptions on 15th-century bells of the Chenghua reign. These attest the wider tradition, not this exact modern sign.
Traditionally, bimo (Yi ritual specialists) transmitted texts on ritual, legend, history, medicine, and astrology, written on paper, cloth, bamboo, wood, bone, horn, and stone. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980; it is a phonetic syllabary for the Liangshan dialect, not one script for every Yi dialect.
How can I type ꑽ?
Enter “yot” in a Yi Pinyin input method, then select ꑽ.
Yi Pinyin is the standard romanization, written in Latin letters. To type ꑽ with Yi Pinyin, enter the syllable spelling “yot”; the input method offers matching Yi candidates.
Font support controls the visible design. Without Yi coverage, the text may appear as a fallback shape or an empty box; the underlying character stays the same.
A normal written syllable in standardized Liangshan Yi; alone, it reads like a character sample.
Without a Yi word around it, “yot” does not tell you the translation.
