What 𞥐 means
It is the zero digit used in Adlam.
The brothers Ibrahima and Abdoulaye Barry devised Adlam around 1990 after helping Fulfulde speakers write in Arabic script, which they found ill-suited to their language. Its name combines the alphabet’s first four letters—A, D, L, M—the initials of a Fulfulde phrase meaning “the alphabet that protects the peoples from vanishing.” A 2014 Unicode proposal shows handwritten digits and early books; a 2024 note documents later letterform refinements for legibility.
