A standard emoji keyboard will not list it; choose an input tool that accepts Unicode code points. Replacing it with ⅓ or 3 changes the character and loses the historical sign.
What did 𐄺 mean in Aegean records?
It marked one position in a specialized Aegean weight series.
Aegean weighing practice is attested by the earlier third millennium BCE; Linear A is first attested in the early second millennium BCE. Aegean number signs derive from non-Greek Linear A and were later used in Linear B, a script adapted to write Greek in administrative records on clay tablets.
Linear B records grouped goods by liquid, dry, and weight measures, with separate units and subunits. Linear A also used whole numbers and fractions, while some lower Aegean numbers appear in the Cypriot system. The absolute values of the weight subunits are not completely agreed upon. Aegean weighing standards interacted with Near Eastern systems: larger units show parallels, while some lighter units may have been local. Related systems were not interchangeable.
Does “third subunit” mean one-third?
No: it names a place in the series, not a fraction.
Use 𐄺 only in its historical Aegean metrological context. For a modern one-third fraction, use ⅓.
Scholarly and typographic; in casual text it signals a deliberate Aegean reference, not an everyday number.
Do not read “third subunit” as “one-third.”
