What ﺢ means
It is the final written form of Arabic ح. In Arabic, ح (ḥāʾ) is a consonant pronounced farther back in the throat than ه. ﺢ shows that same letter joined to the preceding character in a word; it is not a separate letter.
Arabic script developed through the evolution of Nabataean Aramaic writing, within a wider Semitic ḥet/ḥāʾ history. Inscriptions and early Qur'anic manuscripts preserve older final ḥāʾ shapes. Some early traditions distinguished its final shape from final ج (jīm); later manuscript traditions lost that distinction.
The letter is also used in Urdu for words borrowed from Arabic. Urdu teaching materials may describe its sound with an English-like breathy h, unlike Arabic teaching materials, which distinguish ح from ه.
Why does ﺢ turn into ح?
Arabic text normally stores ح and shapes it from context. Arabic letters join, and writing software selects a letter’s isolated, initial, medial, or final shape from its neighbors. ﺢ is a separately encoded final shape kept for compatibility with older text.
Compatibility normalization can map ﺢ back to ح, even if the displayed form looks the same. For ordinary Arabic writing, enter ح and let the text shape it.
Neutral in Arabic writing; this exact presentation form is a technical or legacy choice, not a tone marker.
Read ﺢ as word-final ح, not as a standalone message.

Questions people ask
1Why does ﺢ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
