arabic letter teheh isolated form

Arabic Letter Teheh, Isolated Form

19/631

This is the fixed isolated shape of Sindhi letter ٿ. In ordinary words, use ٿ and let the text engine choose its connected form; ﭢ can stay isolated and interrupt joining. Sindhi romanization writes the consonant as th, a spelling convention rather than an English pronunciation guide.

What ﭢ means

Use ٿ in ordinary Sindhi words; reserve ﭢ for exact isolated-form data.

ﭢ is the fixed shape for the isolated position, not a different sound. The base letter ٿ represents a Sindhi consonant; one Sindhi romanization writes it as th, a Latin-letter spelling rather than an English pronunciation guide.

Unicode maps this compatibility presentation form to the base letter ٿ. Use ﭢ only when legacy data, a specimen, or a test needs that exact isolated glyph. In connected Sindhi text, ٿ lets the text shaper choose the initial, medial, final, or isolated display from the letter's position.

How was this letter adapted for Sindhi?

It was adapted to mark Sindhi sounds in an Arabic-derived script.

A University of Sindh study cites a Sindhi book titled Manzoomia, dated 1067–1069 AH (the Islamic calendar), as the oldest specimen of Sindhi writing in a Persian-Arabic script. It says added dots represented local sounds but does not identify ﭢ, so the date anchors the wider writing tradition, not this exact letter.

Sindhi alphabet arrangements documented in 1853, 1935 and 1960 changed letter order and teaching sequence. Unicode groups Teheh with Sindhi adaptations such as Tteheh (ٺ) and Teh with three dots above downwards (ٽ), which also extend the Arabic-derived script to represent local sounds.

Specialist form for font, legacy-text, or exact-glyph work; ordinary Sindhi text uses the base letter ٿ.

Inside a word, ﭢ can freeze the isolated shape and disrupt expected joining.

1

Why does ﭢ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
