What ࣟ means
It marks where a reciter should stop. Waqf guidance shows where pauses shape phrasing and breath. Tajweed is the guidance for reciting the Qur’an; a mushaf is a written copy of the Qur’an. This is recitation notation, not ordinary Arabic punctuation.
The wider pause-mark family developed over time rather than beginning with one invented sign. A study points to a manuscript from the late first Islamic century—the first century of the Islamic calendar—as an early surviving example of that family. This exact form was proposed for Pakistani Qur’ans; South Asian printed mushafs can differ in the signs they use and where they place them.

Questions people ask
1Why does ࣟ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Arabic Extended-A block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
