What 𖤛 means
It is a Bamum letter; “puut” labels its reading. “Puut” is a scholarly transliteration: a way to write the letter’s value in Latin letters, not the translation of a Bamum word.
Early Bamum writing used signs for objects and actions as memory aids. Rebus writing then reused a sign for a word with a similar sound, before the script developed into a syllabary—a system in which signs represent syllables. Phase D is the fourth major stage; modern Phase G came later. Unicode 17.0 (2025) describes Bamum’s supplementary set—an additional group of encoded characters—as mainly used by linguists and historians; most Bamum writers use Phase G.
Historical and specialist in use.
In 2018, Bamum text rendering depended on font and app support; a box can signal missing coverage, not a different letter.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𖤛 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Bamum Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
