What 𖧬 means
In Phase E, this sign writes the Bamum value transcribed ve.
Bamum writing began around 1896 under King Ibrahim Njoya, who developed a system for writing the Bamum language in present-day Cameroon. Early signs worked partly as memory aids. Revisions changed and reassigned signs as the system became more syllabic, with signs representing spoken syllables. Phase E is one stage in that history.
Bamum texts recorded history, medicine, maps, correspondence, and folktales. This letter belongs to that writing tradition; its Phase-E form identifies the stage of the text.
Historical and specialist; it identifies a specific stage of Bamum writing.
