What ꛷ means
It marks a question in modern Bamum writing. This Bamum punctuation closes the question; a font without Bamum support may display a missing-glyph box.
The Bamum script began around 1896 as a logographic memory aid: signs stood for words or ideas. It changed through stages into a syllabary (a system using signs for syllables) around 1910. Earlier Bamum texts with older letter forms had no punctuation, so ꛷ belongs to a later writing system. A history manuscript catalogued c. 1912 is written in modern Akauku, a later form of Bamum writing. The mark is called pon ne yu pishe in Bamum and wili in Shümom.
