What ৽ means
It signals an abbreviated word. Bengali and Assamese print use it, as can other languages written in Bengali script.
A printed example appears in an 1885 Kolkata edition of an annotated Bengali translation of the Sanskrit Sāmaveda Saṁhitā. Bengali printers also used visarga (ঃ) and anusvara (ং)—marks with other language roles—for abbreviations; the full stop gained ground across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

1Why does ৽ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Bengali block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
