What ৩ means
They grew from eastern forms of Northern Brahmi.
Brahmi was an ancient South Asian writing system. Numerals appear in Ashoka's third-century BCE inscriptions, then at Nana Ghat in the first century BCE. The digit three appears in Nasik cave inscriptions from the first or second century CE.
Bengal's figures appear on Gupta copper plates; Pala and Sena records show later Bangla forms. Pala copper plates recorded regnal years (years counted from a ruler's accession). Bangla digits mark dates and exam scores.

It can. Unicode's sample shape does not prescribe one fixed outline, so fonts may draw this character differently. Its text value stays three.
